Over the past few years, I’ve been so concerned with what I put in my body in the way of food, etc. One thing I haven’t considered is the way that household cleaners come in contact with my foods, fruits and vegetables. When a friend brought this to my attention, I was horrified! How often do I spray down my counter tops with harsh kitchen cleaners?! Like, multiple times a day! When I realized that these cleaners are landing all over my fruits and vegetables and exposed appliances, I knew I wanted to make a change.
My friend has been mixing vodka and water together as her kitchen cleaner for forever! One of my favorite stories she tells is about the time when she was spraying the counter as her boys were finishing a meal. They were trying to cover their plates to keep the spray off of their food (“MOM! get that away from our plates!”) To show them that it wasn’t harmful, she just sprayed a big squirt in her mouth! LOL. They didn’t complain after that!
To make this kitchen cleaner, I recommend getting a professional sprayer (like this one). I love being able to adjust the strength of the sprayer. I use the aggressive spray on my bathrooms/bathtubs and the more gentle mist for my kitchen counters! Citrus fragrances are my favorite for the kitchen, so I added the peel of a lemon and lime to the sprayer. Fill it a third of the way full with vodka (I just get the largest, cheapest I can find!) and then top off with water! The longer the citrus infuses, the more fragrant it will become!
Feel free to choose any citrus peel! I think I’ll use orange and lime together for the spring and summertime! (Heart eyes!) Y’all give this a try and let me know how it goes!
